Born in Vorontsovka, Voronezh region in 1926. In 1960 Prokopenko graduated from the Surikov Art Academy. Began exhibitng in 1949. Important shows include "Soviet Russia", Moscow 1960. He was a Merited Member of the Union of Artists.
